Special Right Angle Triangle
I am going to introduce this ratio of a special right angle triangle 1:√3: 2
Beside using the Pythagorean Theorem, to find out the length of the sides. We can also use this ratio to find out the length of the sides.
H = Hypotenuse 2
LS = Longer side √3
SS = Shorter Side 1
LS = √3 * SS or 1/2 * H * √3
SS = 1/2 * H
H = SS * 2
If you want to know the prove for this ratio, you can watch this following link:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFL4stapeUs
The proof involves cutting an equilateral triangle in half forming two congruent 30º-60º-90º triangle as shown in the following graph:
Other than using this ratio, you can also use trigonometry find out the side.
LS * Tan 30º = SS
SS / Tan 30º = LS
LS * Cos 30º = H, H / Sin 30º = LS
SS * Sin 30º = H, H / Cos 30º = SS
In case you forget about the 1:√3: 2 ratio, you can use the above trigonometry to help you find out the ratio as well.
Hopefully, this blog post is helpful to you and have fun in learning geometry.
